In this series of portraits of St Kilda personalities, Peter asked each person to think about who they are, what excites them, & not what they do. It’s a difficult question to answer & drew a few bemused looks. Each of the participants brought something special to the shoot that not only showed their likeness but also a side of them we may not know.

Prints are on display until Saturday 29th October 2022

Justine dalla Riva
CEO Victorian Pride Centre

We all deserve to belong, regardless of gender, sexuality, race or religion. Justine grew up around the dinner table where the sharing of food provided the basis of belonging, where stories were shared, the highs & lows. When Justine cooks for friends & family she’s creating the belongingness we all seek.

David Hunt
Radio Broadcaster/Producer TV Presenter/Producer

Apart from the love of art, David loves & has have fun with kitsch, mainly Snow Domes. He has hundreds, mostly given to him when people travel, it saves him from going on holidays!

Pamela Reid
Life Drawing Artist

Pamela walked into the studio & instinctively stepped up on a ladder with no intention than to allow the photographer to capture what he wanted. As a Life Drawing artist, capturing the essence of the human form & character lies at the heart of Pamela’s work. It was fun for Pamela to have those tables turned & for Peter to bring his photographic interpretation of her.

Dave Moll
Musician

Books, especially classic literature & big words bring inordinate pleasure to Dave but his favourite movie of all time, ever, is The Third Man and the zither music of Anton Karas.

Megan Bawden
Musician

Words, poetry, writing and music matter to Megan. Lou, music & the poetry of Reed all come together for Megan. Megan brought along t-shirts that she loves, either for what they say or the memory of St Kilda & the bands she’s seen. Megan has been playing music live now for more than 40 years and is ‘Still Here.’

Enza Benincasa
Artist

Society often pushes us to put our best foot forward which can cause grief to many people. Enza portrayed herself with two shoes. On the other foot, the boot, the side of ourselves we do not show, symbolises our sadness, depression, our anxieties, our disabilities, alcoholism, gambling, our sexual preferences, financial problems, our real points of views, our thoughts, traumas, & secrets.

Michelle Nichol

Michelle chose to wear a kaftan which has been around for centuries. To Michelle the kaftan symbolised freedom of movement & a more casual, relaxed style, a fashion trend that was popular in the 1960s & 70s.

David Blakeley
Someone who does nothing but has a lot of meetings

David is very passionate about all things St Kilda & promoting & advancing its strengths.

Mick Pacholli
Publisher and Social Entrepreneur

Mick is an avid advocate for the arts in St Kilda & has even an even greater passion for lawn bowls. He “plays for keeps!” And to win.

Richard Harris
Fine art photographer & printmaker

The place in the world that Richard feels the happiest is at Burning Man. It’s his version of Utopia. The event attracts 75,000 people to celebrate their shared love of art, alternative. lifestyles, respect for our planet, fancy dress & serious partying. Once you're inside everything is free, except the ice!

Colin Sheppard
Artist/Signwriter

For Colin the portrait has a lot to do with his early history in St.Kilda when he used screen print on fabrics to be made into garments. 35 years on, the way he still dresses is his way of expressing individuality, as well as being a strong believer of a line Colin had on an old 70’s T-shirt. “Youth has no age”

Simon Barnett
Film Maker/Producer

Simon has a penchant for outer space, so we sent him there.
